We’re Continuing To Build On A Leap of Faith

The famed mathematician Pythagoras famously said, “There is a mysterious harmony in numbers.” How fitting, then, that our elder law practice embarks on our 5th Annual Elder Care Symposium in the same summer we mark the 10th anniversary of the purchase of our office building in Blue Ash.
I’d be less than candid if I said I was confident back then that either endeavor would take hold. The building represented a significant investment in our firm’s future, and the symposium was an ambitious idea whose impact had yet to be proven.
Perhaps, with the benefit of hindsight, it makes sense that both projects endured and stood on their own. They were both launched with the same goals in mind. We purchased the building in 2016 to better serve our clients and their families. We had previously been located on the 7th floor of a sleek office tower – ADA compliant, but a terribly long walk for individuals with mobility issues. We wanted something more accessible where our families could pull right up to the front door. And we built a training room inside where seniors could come and learn from aging experts about the daily issues affecting them.
It is with that exact same spirit that we launched our first symposium in 2021 (though we couldn’t actually host it until 2022 because of the pandemic!). We wanted to bring together local, national, and international experts, along with myriad care providers, living facilities, and senior-focused businesses, under one roof, making their knowledge accessible to the aging community right in their backyard.
Both undertakings have become repositories of memories—one through the daily work of serving clients and building relationships, the other through bringing together leaders, colleagues, and our community to learn, connect, and grow. That is why I am so excited about this year’s Keynote Speakers, Matthew Goerke and Dr. Molly Mather. They will teach us how to improve our chances of holding on to the memories we create and share secrets to Super Aging. Ten years ago, I couldn’t have imagined all that our Hunt Road home would come to represent. Five years ago, I wasn’t certain our symposium would grow into the signature event it has become. Today, celebrating both milestones in the same summer reminds me that the most meaningful accomplishments often begin with a leap of faith rather than a guarantee of success. And that’s a not-so-mysterious harmony you don’t need Pythagoras to figure out.
