Our Life Care Planning team was able to work together to keep a client in her long-term care facility, while navigating the complicated Medicaid process. Our client is living in a local facility that accepts Medicaid, but that facility did not have a Medicaid bed. Our Elder Care Coordinator (ECC) looped one of our attorneys into what was happening and the concerns she had – she knew moving this client to another community was not in the client’s best interest. Our attorney reached out to the point of contact at the facility outlining our concerns. The facility offered to reduce the private pay cost, but our ECC informed them that was not enough. If they did not honor Medicaid, our client would need to move. The facility contact discussed this with his corporate office and notified us that our client will be allowed to continue as a resident where she is under Medicaid – preventing a complicated move for our client. Medicaid is complicated and having an advocate often helps when families are facing critical decisions.
